This weekend’s snowstorm has caused issues for drivers and travelers across our region, but for adults and kids who had Monday off, they spent the day on the trails. In St. Albans, families spent the day at Hard’ack, the city’s recreation center. Dozens of people were tubing, sledding, skiing and snowboarding. Several said they were excited to finally have good conditions after a rough start to the season. “Compared to what we’ve had so far, it’s definitely good conditions. I’ve been scraping the snow off my yard to make a little trail, but, I mean, I’m very, very excited,” said Jericho, a student who lives in Georgia.Others said the fluffy snow made great conditions for sledding and tubing down the recreation area’s larger hill.”If it was sticky, you would just kind of stay in the same spot, but with powder, you just slide on top of it,” said Mason, a middle school student who lives in Milton. Lee Barrett, program manager with St. Albans Recreation Department, said they were excited to welcome people. He said that even though they can make their own snow, the fresh, real powder means more people can get out and enjoy the winter weather.”We can make the artificial snow, which helps us get the base that we need to actually open the ski hill, but having this fresh powder is just all the better,” explained Barrett. As the cold weather holds, Barrett encouraged anyone in the area to stop by and enjoy the ski and sled hills and the open cross-country skiing and snowmobiling trails.
