It’s hard to imagine paying more for a home than the seller asks, but it happens. High demand and low supply drive prices up. Bidding wars among many home shoppers for desirable homes and locations also benefit the seller.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reported on the top 10 Oregon residences that sold for up to $850,000 over the asking price in 2025.
The last quarter of 2025 saw an end-of-the-year flurry of transactions and a slice of those quickly received higher offers. Here are 10 homes that recently sold for more than the list price.
$101,000 over asking

A 1911 Craftsman house on a 0.11-acre lot on Northeast 18th Avenue in the Irvington neighborhood was listed Sept. 19 for $1,275,000. An offer was received Sept. 22, and the transaction closed Oct. 14 for $1,376,000.
The four-level dwelling features 3,600 square feet of living space that blends original architecture and oak hardwoods with modern updates. The kitchen has custom inset cabinetry, an expansive island and an eat-in nook with built-in bench seating.
“Gorgeous grounds, a detached garage with updated storage and a location blocks to Lower Fremont Shops, Whole Foods and Irving Park make this a noteworthy property in one of Portland’s most historic communities,” said listing agent Jim Arnal of Windermere Realty Trust.

A 1938 house on a 0.11-acre lot on Southeast 18th Avenue in Sellwood-Moreland was listed Sept. 4 at $799,000. An offer was accepted Sept. 8. The sale closed Oct. 10 for $875,000.
“This well-cared-for Westmoreland home is a rare find with its functional layout, generously sized rooms, abundance of natural light throughout and meticulous backyard,” said Melisa Pierson of Windermere Realty Trust, who represented the seller.
The buyer was represented by Dennis Haggar of Coldwell Banker Bain.
$46,000 over asking

A 1959 midcentury modern house on a 0.17-acre corner lot on Southwest Filmont Avenue in Cedar Hills was listed Sept. 11 for $560,000. An offer was received Sept. 14, and the transaction closed Oct. 14. The final price: $606,000.
“This one-level atomic ranch with its spacious front deck is a respite from the bustle of city living,” said Bonnie Roseman of Living Room Realty, who represented the seller.
The entry hall has a quintessential vintage wooden partition wall. Oak floors have been refinished, and there is a tiled fireplace.

A 1904 Craftsman house on Southeast Taylor Street in Portland’s Sunnyside neighborhood received an offer four days after being placed on the market Oct. 16 at $599,900 and sold for $637,000 on Nov. 20.
The Jessie M. Raymond House, listed in the National Register of Historic Places, has 2,854 square feet of living space that includes coffered ceilings in the living and dining rooms and three upstairs bedrooms.
The 0.12-acre lot includes Portland Heritage Tree 117, a Pacific dogwood (Cornus nuttallii).
“From its graceful wraparound porch and stone-columned entry to the woodwork, leaded glass and pocket doors inside, every detail tells a story of early 20th-century craftsmanship,” said listing agents Carmel Siler and Tyler King of Windermere Realty Trust.

A 1929 house on a 0.09-acre lot on Southeast Steele Street in Mount Scott-Arleta neighborhood was listed Sept. 12 for $429,000. An offer was accepted Sept. 15, and the sale closed Oct. 14. The sale price: $462,500.
“Vaulted ceilings and natural light set the tone in the dining room, where French doors open to a private backyard retreat designed for morning coffee or summer dinners outside,” said listing agent Jade Fox of Think Real Estate.
The buyer was represented by Miranda Klein of Move Real Estate.

A 1924 bungalow on a 0.12-acre lot on North Commercial Avenue in Portland’s Boise neighborhood was listed Sept. 18 at $859,000. An offer was accepted Sept. 22, and the transaction closed Oct. 20. The final price: $889,000.
“Welcome to Brightside reimagined by designers with … every update honoring the home’s historic character (warm wood floors, custom millwork, period finishes) while adding ease to daily life,” said Lydia Hallay and Megan Jacob of Living Room Realty, who represented the seller.

A three-level, updated house built in 1924 on a 0.13-acre corner lot on Southeast 72nd Avenue in Portland’s Mount Tabor neighborhood accepted an offer six days after the property was placed on the market Oct. 16 for $599,900.
On Nov. 20, the property traded hands for $628,000.
“With three bedrooms and three full bathrooms, this rare layout provides comfort and flexibility for a variety of lifestyles,” said listing agent Jennifer Moody of Stellar Realty Northwest. “The oversized garage with exterior access presents exciting ADU (accessory dwelling unit) potential for future expansion or income opportunity.”

$25,000 over asking

A 1925 bungalow on a 0.33-acre lot on Northeast 155th Avenue in Portland’s Wilkes neighborhood was listed Oct. 9 at $325,000. An offer was accepted Oct. 13, and the transaction closed Nov. 26. The final price: $350,000.
“Whether you’re dreaming of future development, expansion or simply enjoying the extra space, this property … is move-in ready while still leaving plenty of potential to make it your own,” said Michelle Koury and Mel George of Windermere Realty Trust, who represented the seller.

A 1939 home on a 0.22-acre lot on Southwest Marigold Street in Portland’s Multnomah neighborhood was listed July 31 at $895,000. It sold Nov. 21 for $917,500.
The seller was represented by Vikki Isaak of Vikki Isaak Properties.
The buyer was represented by Risley Wilkinson of Cascade Hasson Sotheby’s International Realty.
$21,101 over asking

A 1928 cottage on Southwest Fairvale Drive in Portland’s Hayhurst neighborhood accepted an offer four days after the property was placed on the market Oct. 17 at $449,999. The transaction closed Nov. 5 at $471,100.
The home has a seismic retrofit, refinished original fir floors, three bedrooms, two bathrooms and 1,446 square feet of living space.
The 3,920-square-foot lot includes a backyard catio (screened cat patio) and cat skybridge, and is adjacent to a green space, said listing agent Heidi Hopfer of Neighbors Realty.
“The certified backyard habitat features easy-to-maintain native plantings, terraced landscaping, with both upper and lower decks perfect for relaxing or entertaining,” she said.
