As 2024 draws to a close, both the Corry Community Center and North Hills Municipal Golf Course report significant developments and community-focused improvements in their fourth-quarter operations.
The Corry Community Center continues to expand its role as a vital community hub, with several notable initiatives underway. The gymnasium has welcomed new winter and spring season renters, including the return of Champion Force cheer group for the second half of their season. Various organized sports activities from volleyball to pickleball continue to thrive in the space.
In a significant development, the center has received recertification to serve as a public voting facility for Erie County. The community room remains active with party rentals, and serves as the venue for City Council’s bi-monthly meetings.
Health and community services have seen substantial enhancement. The center now houses a Narcan box in its lobby, having been accepted into the Emergent Pharmaceutical Services program. This partnership ensures a reliable supply chain for these crucial medical resources. Additionally, the facility offers free Fentanyl test strips, wound care kits and other essential human service items through Recovery is Community NWPA.
A major infrastructure improvement project dubbed “Sound Out!” has garnered significant support, including a $5,000 grant from the Arlene Smith Foundation. The project aims to enhance the gymnasium’s acoustics through sound absorption baffles, improved audio equipment and safety features. These upgrades will enable the facility to host family movie nights and expand its capacity for sporting events with commentary needs.
Looking toward future developments, the center has submitted an application for the Local Share Account Grant to transform its current kitchen into a health department certified kitchen. This upgrade would expand the facility’s capability to provide free meals for summer recreational program youth and support various community events and fundraisers.
Meanwhile, the North Hills Municipal Golf Course reports a successful 2024 season, marked by notable increases in revenue across multiple areas, including greens fees, cart rentals and food and beverage sales. The course has completed all necessary winter preparation maintenance work. Management has elected to maintain current rates for season passes and cart usage through the upcoming season, though greens fees and cart rental rates will vary throughout the year.
