NORTON SHORES, MI – Muskegon-area seniors can enjoy “restaurant-style” dining and pizza and beer nights at a new assisted living community.
Oasis Senior Living is now accepting applicants for its new independent and assisted living community at 6025 Harvey Street in Norton Shores.
The campus features 81 living spaces, including 18 memory care rooms for people with Alzheimer’s or dementia. Every tenant gets access to three daily meals, housekeeping, laundry and emergency call services.
Community amenities include a mini putting green, spa, game room, sun room, movie theater and a restaurant-style dining room where 97% of meals are made from scratch, Oasis Sales Director Kim Sommer said.
“Our food manager comes from a restaurant background, and she feels everyone should be served restaurant-style,” she said. “Nothing is institutionalized, no trays, it’s just very lovely.”
Guests can choose their meals in advance from a weekly rotating menu. They also have access to a snack, juice and coffee bar, and a mobile salad cart.
Sommer said she has a personal connection to Oasis. About a year ago, she and her aging mom were looking for assisted living facilities before choosing Oasis.
After regularly visiting her mom, Sommer became very familiar with the place and was able to give complete tours to visiting relatives.
“Someone in management saw me and asked if I wanted to work here, so now I get to see my mom every day at work,” she said.
Staff at Oasis will regularly host events to keep seniors engaged, such as Oreo tasting day, pizza and beer night, and a nonalcoholic pub crawl for St. Patrick’s Day.
“They are not missing out on anything,” Sommer said.
Seniors usually need to be age 65 and older to be eligible to stay at Oasis, but younger people with certain disabilities or chronic health conditions might also be eligible.
Eligible tenants will be evaluated by a wellness director, who will then assign them a level of care based on their needs. Apartment fees are determined based on the level of care a tenant receives. The community currently operates on a private pay model and does not take Medicare or Medicaid patients.
Oasis plans to host an open house and ribbon cutting from 2-4 p.m. Thursday, April 24. The event will feature food, door prizes, live music and a chance for the public to learn more about the community.
People can call (231) 624-5993 or email [email protected] to schedule their own tour.
