‘The Point’ at Oak Island gets fresh sand thanks to the Army Corps
Oak Island’s west end, known as “The Point,” is getting fresh sand thanks to the corps dredging Lockwood Folly Inlet at the Intracoastal Waterway.
Several Oklahoma lake recreational areas will be closed temporarily or have their services reduced due to staffing shortages at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
The Corps’ Tulsa District said in a news release that while the closures would “be felt by the public, our goal is to provide safe and sustainable recreation experiences.” The agency said it doesn’t have the staffing to maintain all its recreation sites at normal levels of service, in addition to executing its flood risk management responsibilities.

Oklahoma Army Corps of Engineers recreation sites see closures, service reductions
Full refunds will be issued in four to six weeks for any camping reservations made during the time the parks will be closed. Check on the status of your refund by calling 877-444-6777.
The temporary closures will occur from May 15 through June 3, and could continue in 14-day increments until staffing is recovered.
“We understand these temporary closures will disrupt plans and we sincerely appreciate the public’s flexibility,” said Jamie Hyslop, chief of the Natural Resources and Recreation Branch. “We will continue to monitor conditions throughout the season and concentrate our resources so we can better maintain high quality service at priority locations.”
